PELVIC DISORDERS & INCONTINENCE

The Pelvic Organs

Two common medical conditions affecting men and women, both the young and the elderly, are incontinence and pelvic pain. Millions of people experience these conditions. They often affect every aspect of their lives, from physical discomfort to their emotional health.

At Manual Therapy Associates, we treat men and women with pelvic disorders. Although the frequency of problems appears to be greater in women due to the anatomy and function of the female urogenital system. The female pelvis is much more open and vulnerable to the outside environment than the male pelvis. The female pelvis is also shorter and wider than the male pelvis to allow for childbirth. These structural differences make a woman's pelvis subject to a significantly higher incidence of infection, trauma, pelvic pain and dysfunction.

Development of Pelvic Disorders

Conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), sexually transmitted diseases and vaginal, bladder and yeast infections can cause pelvic pain, abdominal or low back pain, or dysfunction, including infertility. Due to tiny adhesions, which form as part of the healing process, these infections and inflammatory processes may cause symptoms long after the inflammation has passed. Pain and/or scar tissue formation from one source, such as endometriosis, can lead to changes in posture and the surrounding muscles and joints over time. This may even affect the nerves that course through the area, causing pain from multiple sources.

"We have helped many people who suffer from ongoing pelvic pain". Our therapists have spent years studying techniques and developing protocols to restore patients' bodies to a state of balance, harmony, and increased function. Our treatment sessions are individualized and last approximately 45 minutes based on individual needs. Treatment is one-on-one, and is in a private treatment room. From your first visit, you will appreciate our comfortable surroundings and compassionate care. We use a "hands-on" approach to treat your symptoms and treat the causes of your pelvic disorder. We begin by treating tight and dysfunctional areas in your body and take the time to share with you our findings and develop a plan together.

At Manual Therapy Associates, we believe that life is movement and movement is life. And you don't have to live with pain and dysfunction as long as we are here with the experience, resources and hands-on expertise to help you. We invite you to take the next step in your recovery.
